I met Lucy a couple weekends ago to take her photos, and I just adored her. Lucy is the first deaf dog that I’ve photographed, so I wasn’t sure if my normal technique (making funky whistling/clicking noises to get the dogs’ attention) would work. Lucky for me, Lucy was extremely food motivated! I made her sit and stay still for me before giving her some tasty treats, and she caught on so incredibly quickly! She sat and waited for me while I snapped away and was such a great model.
In fact, after the photo session I sat around and talked to a few foster parents who were there, and Lucy sought me out and sat next to me, looking up at me patiently and giving me the look as if to say, “Please, just one more treat?” I am no expert with training deaf dogs, but I would guess that Lucy is going to be very easy to train! Plus, with such a cute face and smile, she’s bound to make any adopter extremely happy!
